A light fixture in its final stages on one of our metal spinning lathes
Metal spinning, also referred to as spinforming, is a technique of forming metal into a variety of three-dimensional, symmetric shapes such as cylinders, cones, spheres, hemispheres, bottle necks or combinations of these shapes. Items which are typically manufactured by metal spinning include, ashtrays, balls(banisters, bedposts, flag poles), bells, cans, cookware (woks, pots, pans, lids, etc.), cylindrical containers, discs, flower pots, funnels, lamp shades, lids, light fixtures, musical instruments, nose cones, vases, vent covers, and a variety of architectural products.
Some advantages of metal spinning are seamless construction, reduced tooling costs due to our in-house toolmaking capabilities, limited deburring and grinding, variability of wall thickness and a variety of finishes. Metal spinning is a good choice for prototype development and can be a cost effective and suitable alternative to forging, stamping, welding and fabrication processes. Tolerances of +/- .010" can be accomplished on most items.
Virtually any type of metal can be spun. Including, but not necessarily limited to: aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, gold, pewter, platinum, silver, steel(hot and cold rolled), stainless steel and titanium.
Other related services include metal turning (+/- .002") and polishing.
